Findings

Harmony Hall features a landscaped lawn fenced by simple wooden posts and large, established trees set back from the main road.

Consultation with Kentucky Heritage Council staff determined that Harmony Hall is Eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places under Criterions A and C. Under Criterion A, Harmony Hall was found to be significant as an Antebellum farm, significant for its early exploration/settlement in Western Kentucky, and significant for its educational contributions when Harmony Hall served as the Cottage Home Cottage. Additionally, Harmony Hall was determined to significant for its architecture as an excellent example of Greek Revival double-pile center-hall plan residence.

What's Cool?

Harmony Hall is an excellent rural example of Greek Revival architecture - and it’s not the only one in Logan County! Evidence shows that the massing of the house is similar to Shaker Colony buildings constructed at the same time in the South Union community of eastern Logan County.

What makes Harmony Hall a great example of rural Greek Revival architecture? It retains its paired interior end chimneys, gable roof, cornice line, open eaves, transom light windows at the entry, symmetrical façade, and portico with Doric columns.

Greek Revival elements wrap around the front and secondary facades. Look at those windows!
